Data Name
The Data Name field refers to the Name of the Wearer as reported in Dosimetry Reports returned by the Dosimetry Service Provider. Historion preserves the data in this field when the Wearer is first imported because it provides important Wearer Record data matching support to subsequent Dose Report Import episodes and any future, possible, Wearer Data Merge operations.
Re-using the Data Name field, or at least having it visible in Historion and available for reports and data exporting purpose, makes it easier to identify individuals when communicating with the Dosimetry Providers, using known field names.
A Data Name is mandatory when Manually Adding new Wearers or adding new Wearers using the Wearer Data Import Template. The Data Name field value is used, with the Wearer No. field value, for matching when importing data via the Wearer Data Import tool.
Dosimetry Providers use their own preferences or standard formats for the name of the Wearer in their Dosimetry Reports. The resulting Data Name field in Historion can contain a code or number and it can be a combination of initials and numbers. The Data Name field has a maximum of 100 characters.
Naming conventions are inconsistent between providers for Wearers and thereby the contents of the Data Name field. In some cases the naming conventions used have changed, over time, within the same Dosimetry Service Provider’s data. To highlight the variations, actual example formats in use (based on the name Bert Dillan) include:
Bert Dillan
Dillan Bert
DILLAN, Bert

Wearer No.
The Wearer No. (Wearer Number) field in Historion is a persistent identifier used to conveniently and accurately refer to a specific Wearer. The Wearer Number is typically assigned when a Wearer’s details are first recorded by the Dosimetry Service Provider. The name of the Wearer Number field is used consistently throughout Historion, such as in search pages, reports and data entry labelling.
The Wearer No. field corresponds to whichever field label each Dosimetry Service Provider elects to use for the main identifier for Wearers in their Dosimetry Reports. The Wearer No. field value is used, with the Data Name field value, for matching when importing data using the Wearer Data Import tool.

Wearer Type
The default Wearer Type is Individual. Additional Wearer Types are available for scenarios where exposure data is not being collected for a person. Examples include Room and Area monitors.
The available Wearer Types and their definitions are as follows;
|
Wearer Type
|
Definition and Use
|
|
Area
|
Results returned from the Dosimetry Provider refer to readings detected in a nominated space, zone or room where radiation is expected. The Wearer’s Dose Records indicated do not represent an individual but the area being monitored. RSOs decide on the purpose/use of this data.
As a convention in the RSO’s data and in Dose Readings returned from the Dosimetry Service Provider the area will typically be given a name, identifying it as a specific place, for example “Room 21” or “Laboratory 3”
|
|
Badge Pool
|
Badge Pools refer to the use of a Dosimeter to monitor the radiation exposure of a group of people. Typically, the assumption is that the levels of radiation exposure across the group are generally consistent. An example might be a group of workers in a mine operating at the same depth and experiencing consistent exposure to radon.
|
|
Control
|
A Control Monitor is used to measure background radiation to be subtracted from the results for Wearers in the same environment as the Control Monitor. In the case of the ARPANSA PRMS a Control Monitor is sent with each group of personal monitors and a Control Reading appears at the top of each Dose Report.
Accounting for background radiation is undertaken by the Dosimetry Service Providers using applicable and agreed standards, calibration equipment and methods and is already factored into the Provider’s Dose Reports when Historion imports the data.
Whilst Controls Readings do affect Dose Outcomes and assumptions, they not always appear in Dose Reports across all of the Dosimetry Report Providers. When present the Control Reading is shown as though it belongs to a Control Wearer type to indicate what the reading was for.
Other than showing the Control Reading results when and if reported by the Dosimetry Service Provider for information purposes, with the other Dose Readings reported in the same Dose Report, Historion essentially ignores Control Readings.
|
|
Individual
|
The Individual Wearer Type is the default for Historion Wearers and is usually the most numerous. The Dosimetry Readings for the indicated Wearer record represent monitored levels of radiation exposure to an actual Human Being for a period in time,
|
|
Spare
|
Sometimes an organisation will maintain a small surplus of Dosimeters not specifically assigned to any individuals and hold these in reserve until needed (such as providing to visitors). From time to time spare badges are returned to providers labelled as “spares” and they may or may not have been exposed to radiation.
|
Note that changing the Wearer Type for a Wearer does not affect or lower Wearer Number usage for subscription purposes. Please further note the section; Historion Subscription Wearer Accounting.
Current Centre
The Current Centre for a Historion Wearer automatically reflects the last known Organisational Centre or Department under which the Wearer was most recently monitored for Radiation Exposure.
The automation of the Current Centre was added to Historion to assist Hospital Administrators with tracking automatically tracking the current Department or Team each Wearer is being tracked in, without having to manually keep this information updated.
RSO feedback has confirmed that the automated Current Centre feature remains important in most medium to large radiation safety settings. The feature is especially important where personnel movement and reassignment between Departments is expected to be of a high enough frequency as to require tracking and ongoing correction to lists of individuals within Departments.
With some hospital networks monitoring over 1,100 Wearers, the accuracy and considerable time saving for the RSO make the automated Current Centre feature very worthwhile.
The Current Centre is determined by checking the Dose Readings for the Wearer and using the Centre indicated at the time of the chronologically latest Wearing Period. This is further described under Import Process Steps.
The Current Centre can be manually changed but it will be automatically reset on the next Dosimetry Data import for any Wearer when;
The Wearer has changed their work location designation such as Department, Centre or Account and this\has been communicated to the Dosimetry Service Provider and:
If new Dose Readings for the same Wearer for the latest Wearing Period for the Wearer are reported under a different account or department group (Centre) and:
If the selected Current Centre does not match that of the most recent Dose Reading, based on Wearing Period chronology, for the Wearer.
The Current Centre concept is sometimes confused with the Dose Centre. The Dose Centre is where the exposure actually occurred, not necessarily the most recent Centre the Wearer was monitored in.
Where there is an option to use either of the Current Centre or Dose Centre choices, in place of the other, Historion Reports will indicate this in their Report Descriptions (displayed on report selection) and optional parameters for selection of the applicable type of Centre filter are displayed where applicable.
The Dose Centre concept is further extended with the introduction of advanced Reading Centre manipulation options as described under the section Import Centre and Reporting Centre where the original reported location of Dose Readings is preserved (the Import Centre) but for Centre merger purposes the Reporting Centre for the Dose Readings is changed to point to a different Centre.
The Current Centre is also used to regulate which Centre Administrator Users (Historion Users that have been assigned Centre Administrator rights for one or more Centres but not System Admin rights) can see which set of Wearer Details. Most reports use the Current Centre as filtering criteria. This means that Centre Administrators often will not see all the Wearers in a report that a System Admin user might see.
If a User is a Centre Administrator for the Centre with Centre Number 1234 then only Wearers with a Current Centre selection of Centre 1234 in the Wearer Details page will be visible to the designated Centre Administrator. Note that it is possible to select a blank Current Centre, meaning the Wearer has no Current Centre. This can occur when Wearers are added manually. The ability to do this is retained for technical compatibility purposes, associated with migrating old Wearer records from legacy systems. Setting the Current Centre to nothing is not recommended.
Monitoring Status
Monitoring Status provides an indication as to whether Radiation Dose levels for a Wearer are currently being recorded, such as with the use of dosimetry technology. Choices include;
Monitored
Not Monitored
Unknown
Wearers sometimes move in and out of roles (and back again) where occupational exposure to radiation can occur. Monitoring Status helps the RSO to track which wearers are currently supposed to be using Dosimeters (Monitored) and which Wearers do not require them (Not Monitored).
(Unknown) Monitoring Status is not used by Historion in any automated capacity. (Unknown) was included for RSO use, such as where a Wearer record needs to be followed up to clarify their role or other current Employment Status for purposes of knowing whether to assigning or not assign badges.
New Wearer records added to Historion during the first import of Dose Readings for the Wearer have a default Monitoring Status of Monitored. Wearers imported with the Wearer Data Import Utility will also default to a Monitoring Status of Monitored (unless a different Monitoring Status is used in the Wearer Import Template).
The Wearer’s tab in the Historion ribbon contains the Expire Wearers (Deactivation) Utility that allows setting Wearers Monitoring Status to Not Monitored, in bulk, on the basis of not having any Dose Readings with Wearing Periods within, for example, the last two years.
Note that it is possible to select a blank Monitoring Status, meaning the Wearer has no Monitoring Status. This can occur when Wearers are added manually. The ability to do this is retained for technical compatibility purposes, associated with migrating old Wearer records from legacy systems.
Setting the Monitoring Status to nothing is not recommended.
Current Centre and Monitoring Status Futures
Validation for manually changing Current Centre or Monitoring Status will prompt if left blank.
Personal Tab
The Personal tab is not the first tab showing in the Wearer Details page. This was a design decision due to the fact that this tab contains private information, like the Date of Birth and Sex of the Wearer.
.png)
Surname
The Surname of the Wearer. Also known as Family Name or Second Name.
First Name
The First Name of the Wearer. Also known as Given Name.
Other Name(s)
The Other Name(s) field allows for Middle Names, Preferred Names or additional Given Names.
Date of Birth
The Date of Birth field is required for participation in the Australian National Radiation Dose Register. The Date of Birth field is also required for the Wearer to appear in some Historion Reports.
The Date of Birth is also required for a Wearer to appear in any Wearer Search results that use the Age Range parameter. The Age Range of a Wearer for search parameter purposes is effectively recalculated with each new search by comparing the Date of Birth with the current date on the local operating system.
Some Providers do not report the Wearer Date of Birth back to the customer in their Dose Reports.
Sex
The sex of the Wearer is required for participation in the Australian National Radiation Dose Register (ANRDR). Selection of the sex of the Wearer as Female is required for the specialised Pregnancy Data button to appear.
The values selectable for the Wearer Sex field are from the Australian Bureau of Statistics Standard: 1200.0.55.012 - Standard for Sex and Gender Variables, 2016 Classification and Coding also in use by the Australian Institute of Health and Well being (AIHW) and ARPANSA for the ANRDR.

Although both classifications use identical category codes and labels, the definitions of each category are unique and align with the concepts of sex and gender. Historion stores the value selected for Sex.
The use of identical labels for both classifications also aligns with the Australian Government Guidelines on the Recognition of Sex and Gender, November 2015 (Attorney-General's Department).
Note: Historion uses the Alternate Code value (M, F or X) when exporting quarterly data submission files for the ANRDR, as required and articulated within the ANRDR Data Transfer Specification.
Contact Tab

Telephone(s)
The Telephone(s) field allows for recording of mobile or landline contact numbers. The Telephone(s) field has a maximum limit of 50 characters.
Email
The Email Address of Wearers is required for use with some features of the Historion Dose Automation companion product. Recording email addresses is recommended if Automated Wearer Reporting is intended to be used in the future.
The following important points regarding the Email field apply;
The Email field has a maximum limit of 100 characters.
More than one Email address can be recorded for a Wearer. Multiple emails must be separated by commas or spaces and the total of all characters must not exceed the 100-character limit.
Any email addresses present in the Email field are validated for correct email address formatting when a Wearer’s details are saved (after adding or editing data in the Wearer Details page).
Group Tab
The Group Tab is provided to record the essential Organisational memberships of the Wearer.
.png)
Organisation
Historion allows the separation of Monitored Wearers into third party students, contractors, visitors or other non-employees or workers from other Government Organisations or institutes.
The selection of an Organisation was introduced to meet this requirement, and this was further extended to incorporate applicable entity registration elements required by the ANRDR.
Organisations can be added by a System Administrator User via the Organisations listing that is available in the System Admin area.
One Organisation can be set as the default for new Wearers which applies to the next new Wearers added via the import process (after the default organisation is set). This setting does not retrospectively update the Organisation for existing Wearers,
We may add a script option under the Run menu to be executed by a Sys Admin to do that, if required
Business Unit
The Business Unit allows a Wearer to be grouped into whatever major grouping structure is most suitable, as determined by the organisation using Historion. Business Units do not appear in Historion as a default set, they have to be added by a Historion Admin User and follow an Organisation’s reporting or hierarchical structures.
The definition and interpretation of what a Business Unit means and any labelling or naming conventions for use reside with the organisation.
Business Units can be added by a System Administrator User via the Business Units listing that is available in the System Admin area. Examples include wards in a hospital or university sub schools.
Business Units can be used to restrict access to Wearer information via the Business Unit Reporting Historion Role. When a Historion User is assigned Business Unit Reporting for a specific Business Unit, only, then only the Wearers with the selected Business Unit in the Group tab (shown above) in their Wearer Details page, will be visible to the nominated Business Unit Reporting manager.
The Business Unit drop down appears in the Group tab of the Wearer Details page and is available as a parameter for Wearer Searching and Reporting.
Site Location
The Site Location allows a Wearer to be grouped into whatever custom geographic structure is most suitable, as determined by the organisation using Historion. Site Locations do not appear in Historion as a default set, they have to be added by a Historion Admin User and follow an Organisation’s known location-based groupings or areas if used. The definition and interpretation of what a Site Location means and any labelling or naming conventions for use reside with the organisation.
Site Locations can be added by a System Administrator User via the Site Locations listing that is available in the System Admin area. Examples might include Hospital or University Sites.
The Site Location drop down appears in the Group tab of the Wearer Details page and is available as a parameter for Wearer Searching and Reporting.
Other Group
The Other Group field is a free text field that allows a Wearer to be grouped into an additional, custom free text-based group in a structure that is most suitable, as determined by the organisation using Historion.
The definition and interpretation of what the Other Group means and any labelling or naming conventions for use reside with the organisation.
Other Group entries do not require a System Administrator User to make any changes in the System Admin area as the Other Group entry is free text based and doesn’t use a controlled drop down list.
The Other Group free text field is available as a parameter for Wearer Searching and Reporting.
Classify Tab
The Classify tab allows for selection of standard or custom Occupational Classifications.
.png)
Occupation Group
The contents of the Occupation Group and Occupation drop down lists come from the ARPANSA PRMS Occupation definitions. Selecting an Occupation Group in Historion causes the Occupation drop down list to be filtered to only display Occupations that belong to the selected parent Occupation Group.
The Occupation Group selection is only provided as a filter for the Occupation drop down list. To save a change in Occupation details an Occupation must be selected. If an Occupation Group, only, is selected without selection of an Occupation the change will not be saved.
Occupation Group
The Occupation Groups drop down list contents represent the category headings in the ARPANSA PRMS Occupation Codes table.
Occupation
ARPANSA Dose Readings include an Occupation Code for each Wearer which automatically maps to an Occupation and its parent Occupation Group.
The Occupation is the specific industry role performed by the Wearer, selected from the within the higher level PRMS group. The Occupations source list appears on the last page of the ARPANSA PRMS New Wearer PDF form which is available for download on the ARPANSA PRMS web site:
https://www.arpansa.gov.au/sites/default/files/prms-new-wearer.pdf
The Occupations source list is provided below.

Other Classification
The free text Other Classification field provides for RSO manual entry of custom, locally defined Occupational labels and definitions. The Other Classification field is available as a filter for the Wearer Search page so that local definitions of Occupations can be used to find and filter lists of Wearers.
IDs Tab
The IDs tab allows for recording some additional identifiers for the Wearer including custom types.
