Dosimeters
Badge Notes
Badge Note Purpose
Radiation Safety Officers sometimes need to separate and flag a specific dosimeter from their current collection in response to an event or scenario, such as accidental over exposure, affecting interpretation or uptake of any resulting Dose Reading for a Wearer.
The typical sequence of events, generally, is as follows:
1.The RSO is notified or otherwise becomes aware of an overexposed or problem dosimeter.
2.The RSO makes a manual note of the applicable badge number, serial number or other dosimeter identifier and details of the Wearer or other badge exposure context.
3.The RSO will watch for incoming readings and examine them when received, assessing for indications of unusual or outlying results which may be associated with the event that originally affected the badge.
This is time consuming and can lead to events of this nature being missed or resulting readings, which should be examined and interpreted in context, being missed when they are returned.
How Historion assists in this scenario with our new Badge Notes feature:
1.The RSO is notified or otherwise becomes aware of an overexposed or problem dosimeter.
2.The RSO creates a new Badge Note in Historion as described in this document. The RSO records the unique badge number, serial number or other dosimeter identifier as well as the Wearer (if known) and circumstances surrounding the event of concern.
3.When the RSO subsequently imports Dose Readings that include a result for any dosimeter that has a Badge Note recorded, Historion notifies the RSO that a Dose Reading with a Badge Note has been detected and allows viewing of so flagged readings in a separate list.
About Badge Notes
A Badge Note is a special File Note which provides a screen link back to the exact Dose Reading associated with the dosimeter the Badge Note was recorded for. Badge Notes re-use the same internal tables and the same feature concepts as File Notes. This means that for Badge Notes:
Multiple external attachments can be added to the Badge Note (for example email messages, work instructions, letters or reports from dosimetry providers or internal office memos re dosimeters that might be relevant to an exposure event) the same as a File Note.
Badge Notes can be seen in the list of File Notes for a Wearer, keeping Wearer history together in one place.
Badge Notes can be seen in the full list of File Notes for all Wearers, allowing all File Note and Badge Note records in Historion to be reported or examined together across types.
Badge Notes appear in the list of Dose Readings within a Dose Report and the Dose Readings in the Wearer details screen exposure tabs with a different File Note colour (yellow highlight).
Adding a Badge Note
Badge Note recording is deliberately uncomplicated and easily accessed. In the Dosimetry tab of the Historion Ribbon select New Badge Note from the Monitor menu as shown below:

Add new Badge Note
The Badge Note details screen (which is the File Note details screen with Badge Note features switch on) appears, awaiting data entry. Take care to record the Badge ID accurately as this is used for future Dose reading alignment. Badge ID, Wearer and Summary are mandatory.

Badge Notes can also be added:
By selecting Add from the All Badge Notes list screen
By adding a normal File Note in any File Note location and then selecting Badge Note as the type of File Note. In this event the screen reconfigures itself and Badge Note data rules will apply as per usual for mandated fields.
Note: if the Wearer is not known or not yet appearing in the Wearer dropdown list the Badge Note can be assigned to the default (or similar) generic CONTROL Wearer. This is noted in the validation prompt displayed if a Wearer is not selected.

The correct Wearer can be selected later, after the Wearer record is added to Historion as a part of normal import processing. Badge Notes are separately listed and easy to find as explained below.
Accessing Badge Notes
Badge Notes are accessed from the ALL Badge Notes menu option:

Badge Notes are also accessible from:
The File Notes list for a Wearer
The All File notes
The Dose Report details screen shows a Badge Notes (count) indicator:

Badge Note Detected Reading Alignment
During the Dose Readings import process Historion examines Badge Notes not yet aligned with any Dose Readings and compares the indicated Badge ID with Badge IDs coming with new doses.
If one or more flagged dosimeters (by virtue of having a Badge Note) is detected, then after the import process has completed the RSO is notified by Historion as to anticipated Dose Reading(s);

Note that this message will also show post bulk import tasks (the Bulk importer or the Landauer Data Transfer Utility) but may be missed if the User has a regular habit of clicking OK after importing.
Badge Notes are easily accessed in various lists, after alignment with a specific Dose Reading any future opening of the Badge Note shows a link Badge Noted Reading to the Dose Reading the Badge Note is aligned with.
The User can then switch from a Badge Note to its aligned Dose Reading in context as shown below.
Clicking the Badge Noted Reading hyper-link opens the applicable Dose Report with the associated detected Dose Reading highlighted as shown below.

Badge Note Indicator File Note Indicator
Note that in the example above a File Note exists for a different reading, whilst a Badge Note is present for the Dose Reading aligned with a previously flagged badge.
The notation icon is a different colour (yellow). Badge Notes are highlighted with a File Note style of icon having a different colour:
Denotes a typical File Note recorded against a Reading at some later stage, well after import
Denotes a Badge Note recorded before a Reading is imported then auto associated at import
Salient Points regarding Badge Notes
They are a special type of File Note recorded before an anticipated Dose Reading is imported
They are a special type of File Note that links a Monitor ID with a future Dose Reading
The associated reading aligned with a Badge Note is flagged in any Readings list with a different colour to signal to the RSO that this was originally a specifically awaited reading.
Badge Notes use the same data structures and screens as File Notes, with important differences in that additional Dose Alignment features are activated
