System Conventions

Navigation in Historion is via Ribbon Tabs, Menus, Sub Tabs, Hyperlinks and Controls. Historion is a Windows Forms application, with a standard Windows look and feel and navigation that should be familiar to Windows users and are consistent with typical Windows software presentation and behaviour. The following System Conventions are employed consistently throughout Historion.

Splash Page

The Historion Splash Page provides an initial welcome banner briefly shown as the software starts;

The Historion Splash page

Splash Pages (and the term Splash Page) have been a standard feature of software packages for some time. During the loading of the Historion Splash Page, initial security access permissions for the Historion database are being checked and the software and database update versions compared to ensure compatibility. As shown above the current version of the software in use can be seen at a glance as Historion loads.

Splash Page Presence and Troubleshooting

The presence of the Historion Splash Page provides an important diagnostic indicator for support purposes when as troubleshooting implementation issues. Implementation issues such as database connection problems and other environment or network settings and options can sometimes interfere with start-up of the software and the presence of the Splash Page is an important progress indicator.

Handling of these types of circumstances is further described under Appendix 2 - Error Handling
