The Centre as a concept was introduced to Historion in support of the ARPANSA Personal Radiation Dosimetry Service (PRMS) data concepts in the first Historion prototype in 2009. Exposure readings are provided by ARPANSA within Dose Reports of the PRMS. The Dosimetry readings that ARPANSA returns to the Radiation Safety Officer are contained in comma separated value (CSV) files with Centre Number values recorded in a [Centre] column.
ARPANSA Dosimetry readings were the first type of Dose Reading that Historion was developed to work with and the Centre was adopted from this structure as a mechanism to identify localised sets or groups of readings.
A Centre in a workplace setting, as implemented by ARPANSA, typically represents either a functional location or a logical, organisational grouping of people for monitoring purposes (such as the Radiology or Nuclear Medicine department in a medical setting) or a Cost Centre or all of the above.
The Centre concept and labelling convention remains a core data grouping feature in Historion and is still used for the same purpose, across the different Dosimetry provider reports that Historion now recognises. Centre selection features prominently in Historion reports, both as report output and groupings and to provide filtering and selection parameters. Centres in Historion Dose Readings are tied to and match the Dose Reading grouping method used by whichever Provider reports them to the RSO, with multiple scenarios often used.
Centres are used to split Dose readings into identifiable sets and are one of the core groupings that the Historion Role-based Security uses. Using customisable role-based security, a system administrator can provide local Centre Administrator Users with access to the Dosimetry readings for wearers in their own Centre, but not necessarily to those belonging to another Centre where this type of separation is necessary for privacy or organisational reasons.
Centres in Historion are typically synonymous with:
local departments in hospital settings, for example: Nuclear Medicine or Radiology;
specialised clinic or surgical units annexed within hospital settings;
faculties, schools, sub-schools or programs in universities for example Medical Sciences;
programs or projects in scientific research organisations (for example: CSIRO)
Cost Centres within any given budgetary model or reporting structure and;
In the case of Landauer Dose Readings either the Account Number or the Series Code.
The Centres List page provides the set of Centres the User has permission to view.
If sufficient Role- based access rights are available, the User can add and delete Centre records and navigate the list of Centres to view and edit Centre details and Centre Contact information:

Export Centres Delete Selected Centre Add a new Centre
The Centres List page provides an Export feature, allowing available Centres to be copied to a new Excel Worksheet if required.
Adding Centres
Centres are typically added during Dosimetry Data Importing, when the User is prompted for the name of a new Centre not already known (by its Centre Number) in the Historion database. Centres can be manually added before importing if this is preferred.
All Dose Readings are tied to a Centre as well as a Wearer record. In order for a Centre Number to be used for a Dose Reading a Centre record must be present and if not present must be added at import.
Deleting Centres
In general Centres should not be deleted unless manually added or if only present as a result of a data migration or upload process and associated records are not present and subordinate records have been removed or were never present.
The data integrity rules present in the Historion database prevent deleting of a Centre if certain subordinate record types have entries in their tables for the Centre, as outlined in table n below.

The Centre is selected as the Reporting Centre for one or more Dose Readings and is not necessarily the main Centre associated with one or more Dose Reports. The Centre is one of multiple Centres appearing in the same Dose Report. Clear all filters in the Dose Reports list page then select the Centre from the Centre filter. Any Dose Reports present for the filter must be deleted before the required Centre can be deleted.
