Tab Modes

View Mode

Most Historion tabs open in View Mode by default. All Listing Tabs are shown in View Mode. Detail Tabs are shown in view mode when displaying an existing record selected from a Listing Tab. View Mode is a Read Only, no changes allowed, mode of displaying a tab and its data.

Edit Mode

Detail Tabs shown in View Mode can be switched to Edit Mode so an existing record can be changed. Switching a Detail Tab to Edit Mode displays the Cancel and Save controls, giving the user the option to keep or discard current modifications. Edit Mode can be allowed or disallowed using Custom Roles as further defined under Access Rights - Roles

The tab for a tab that is currently in Edit Mode is highlighted in yellow as further described above under Page Tabs and the Tab Bar. Note that in addition to locking Tab Tabs during edit sessions, an edit session must be completed (by using either Cancel or Save as required) before Historion can be closed. The following dialogue is displayed if a tab is still in Edit Mode and the User tries to close Historion:

Add Mode

Detail Tabs are shown in Add Mode (almost identical to Edit Mode) when a new record of a given type is being created such as when a User has clicked the Add Control in a Listing Page.

The main difference between Add Mode and Edit Mode is the result; the Historion Database will have a new record inserted as a result of Add Mode whilst Edit Mode changes an existing record that was previously added to the database.

Add Mode also displays the word “New” in front of the record type being added, both in the window bar at the top of the Historion application window and the Page Tab in the Open Tabs bar;
